BIOMILQ is a cell based milk company with an initial focus on culturing human breast milk. The technology works by isolating human mammary cells and enabling these cells to lactate to produce a constellation of complex compounds found in human milk. The lactation occurs inside of a closed system that utilizes proprietary cell culture media and growth factors to stimulate genetic code that directs the cells to lactate. In 2020, BIOMILQ successfully produced predominant breast milk protein and sugar components including human casein and lactose using human mammary cells isolated outside of the body. This sample was a positive first step towards BIOMILQ’s proven ability to develop the most complex components of human breast milk. These components however do not make up the entire nutritional profile of breast milk, but would serve as viable additives to an existing formula product by adding important nutrients that can only be synthesized cellularly.
