Bayer is part of a joint venture partnership with Ginkgo Bioworks called Joyn Bio. The company comprises a team of microbiologists, synthetic biologists, plant scientists, and ecologists working to engineer microbes to provide nutrients (such as nitrogen) to plants in place of chemical fertilizers.
