Bolt Threads is developing cell based spider silk through recombinant protein and cellular fermentation technologies. The company occupies a 32,000-square-foot facility that includes lab space and commercial scale fermentation tanks to synthesize lab grown spider silk. The silk is not widely available yet and has only been released through small scale collaborations with high end designers.
