Geltor develops gelatin proteins for the beauty and nutrition industries using microbial engineering and cellular fermentation technologies. Currently, Geltor manufacturers two products for the skincare market. Collume™ is an animal free marine collagen synthesized through cellular fermentation processes. On the company’s website Geltor reveals that a pilot clinical study showed increased skin firmness and elasticity and improved skin moisturization as compared to traditional marine collagen (not synthesized through cellular fermentation). Geltor’s process allows for a more consistent and pure collagen versus traditional collagen extracted from animal waste products.

In 2020, Geltor raised $91.3 million in Series B financing to expand a platform which Geltor calls Ingredients-as-a-Service.™ Geltor is looking beyond collagen to revolutionize cosmetic ingredients on multiple fronts to tailor custom bioactive ingredients for specific product needs. This approach works to develop industrial strength “hero” ingredients using biology (as opposed to chemistry) in an effort to make cosmetics with more precise quality.
