Modern Meadow is headquartered in New Jersey with a design and research studio in Brooklyn, New York. The company engineers yeast cells to produce and assemble collagen and other proteins to yield leather that is biologically identical to traditional leather. In March 2018, Modern Meadow struck a joint development partnership with European chemicals giant Evonik that will help scale production. Once scaled, the production cycle will take two weeks to create and have the potential to match any thickness, texture or color specifications.
