VitroLabs is developing cell cultured leather through a scalable tissue engineering platform. Instead of using fermentation to culture DNA (like Modern Meadow), Vitro will engineer actual animal skin tissue sourced through a biopsy. According to the company website, Vitro claims they will be able to grow infinite leather from a single tissue biopsy.
